Water Extraction Licence

A water licence is an entitlement to take and use a bore to source groundwater or use surface water from a waterway (rivers and creeks).

Along with a water licence, you will be provided with a water entitlement - the volume of water that you are permitted to use.

A water licence is typically granted for a 10-year period but under special circumstances, you may be approved for a longer term.

In the Northern Territory, you pertain a water extraction licence to take or use water.

  1. Water Drilling Licence Class 1: includes single non-flowing aquifer systems.
